I have have only noticed the timber veering off course when the planer comes across a knot in the timber. This doesnt make much sense to me as the blades are razor sharp. It really isnt a huge problem as it happens rarely but if someone figurs it out, I would be keen to find out.

MariosYou can never have enough planes, that is why Mr Stanley invented the 1/2s

Found that the issue I had was probably caused by the width of timber I was running through at the time, only 45mm and I think the pressure on the rollers in uneven so they want to send it across to the side with the least pressure.
Does anyone know if you can adjust the pressure on the infeed and outfeed rollers? I think mine are set way to low (too much pressure) as it is hard to get timber in to start with and the ribbed roller is marking 150mm wide jarrah now that is alot of force. I have the axminster manual but there is no mention of it in there.

Here's the manual for the Axminster version, which seems pretty close (described as an ML392 in the manual itself):

Note the maintenance schedule.Cheers, Ern

I have the dreaded 392 and the 2nd time I used it the internal wiring in the motor melted. Guess what, timbecon said, " operator error" no warranty claim. So I got myself a decent 2hp motor and made a stronger mounting system then rewired the whole machine with heavier duty wiring and it goes well. But Im waiting for some other major part to fail (and it will) so I can go and get me that jet combo Ive been looking at. Lesson learnt= you get what you pay for!!

Hi Burnsy,
This may be 2.5 years too late but.....
I had the same trouble with the timber jamming on the thicknesser pass. Turned out my issue was poor dust extraction. It was literally clogging up the infeed roller. Now I open it up every other pass and vacuum it out. PIA but fixes problem till I can organize a more powerful dust removal system.

I just got my ML392 back form my SIL whom I loaned it to three years ago.
It was jammed solid...
The faults have all been listed in this thread previously: fallen off and mangled deflector bar, noisy cutterhead bearings, loose/stretched primary feed roller chain, secondary feed roller chain jumped off the sprocked and jammed, loose feed roller sprocket and damaged table lock excenters.
So I'll start analysing the cause of these faults - on my machine - taking into account all the good info already provided in this thread.
I have already found a couple of things not yet listed - possibly because this machine has been used a lot and is a very old model.
I'll make some alterations and will document these - in case someone else's machine develops the same faults.
More soon.
Joe
