    Hi Lignum,

I'm impressed at the capabilities offered by the Domino, but as a hobby woodworker I could not justify getting one.

I mean, $1680 for the full kit! There's an ebay seller in Germany selling the same thing for AUD $1095 (and that includes German VAT at 16%).

All Festool tools are way overpriced here is Oz. I believe they are great tools (I don't own any myself) but the pricing is way over the top.

    I must disagree here.

In my job as a weapons maintainer (Navy weapons: 5" gun, missile launchers etc) I have used a lot of Snap On, as well as Sydchrome, Metrench? and the like. I have yet to have a Snap On tool fail on me, where others have. I feel their quality is second to none.

Then again, I haven't been paying for them.

The most overpriced tool, regardless of the price, is the one that one doesn't use (for whatever reason). An expensive tool, used to aid precision, quality of build, and to reduce the time and/or effort to do so, is worth as much as it can make for its owner, if that owner is a professional woodie, or can make an occasional commission a viable project for an amateur.

    Just my 2c worth!

I honestly believe that within this thread, a lot of people have mistaken 'expensive' for 'overpriced'.

I'll be the first to say that Felder machines (and also Hammer machines) are expensive. But I don't believe them to be overpriced. In fact, in most cases, I believe them to be excellent value for money.....as long as you can afford it in the first place . I'm not intending to turn this post into a spam about the merits of the Felder range of machinery, so I shall do a quick sideways leap.....

....to the Domino. Now let me be honest and say that I have seen the Domino, but never used it, and even if I had have used it I probably wouldn't appreciate it's benefits as much as others on this forum. But to read the posts of Domino users (I dare anyone to find a post from Lignum in the past three months that doesn't mention his Domi ) I would say that they all agree it was an expensive outlay that they are now reaping the benefits of. Is it overpriced? Depends on how much enjoyment and how much benefit you get out of it.

    We have a saying at the Felder office;
"All machines will do the same job. It's just the level of frustration that varies."

    Quality comes at a price.

It is hard to evaluate whether or not a tool / machine is over priced until you have used one.

The look on the customers faces is priceless when they walk in and see me standing behind my bench happily working away

The most expensive one is the one that stuffs up your job...like the $39.95 fixed base router that plunges when it's not supposed to and comes out the other side and into the bench...
or the biscuit jointer that slowly sinks so that no two biscuits are the same distance from the reference face.

I've had a snap on tool fail on me once.
    It failed to float

    www.snapontools.com.au - $3373 for a 44 piece socket set - I say that's a tad rich. Don't drop any of them in the drink.
