Ozito Mitre Saw

Hi everyone,

I needed a mitre saw for cutting 45 degree angles out of Merbau decking. With a compound cut of 10 to 20 degrees.

I had a quick look around and decided on the Ozito 800w Compound Mitre Saw.
(Very quiet compared to the Triton Precision Saw).

2 year warranty. 4 year parts.

I know we've been discussing GMC and how good their quality is for the price.

I've had a look at other Mitres at this price and none come close to the stability of the Ozito.

Anyone else know about Mitres in the $100 prices range?

Also it has an 8" 23 tooth blade.

For cutting the Merbau decking, should I replace the blade for a finer tooth one.

Hi Barry,
I just picked up a GMC mitre saw from Bunnings in the sub $100 range.
Its 190mm and 1000watts. It has a full 2 year warranty.
I know its crap but I plan to run the guts out of it for 2 years and then get a $1000+ Makita.
I also had a look at the NRG (No real good) and Ryobi at K-mart again both sub $100. The Ryobi looked ok but I went for the GMC. Nothing flash but it has done well over the past week or so. Something that costs more $$$ would be a better saw but we all need to make comprimises

Oh by teh way. I can do the plans for your deck on the computer but I have to finish painting the house before Christmas. Sorry

Barry,
The Ozito and the GMC are about even - the best part is the two-year warranty - if you play it right you should be able to get a new one every six months or so - also with a two year warranty!
A finer blade would be better for cross cuts/mitres if you want the ends to look neat without further work.
One of the new Triton blades would do well - cost damn near as much as the saw, but do a good job and outlast the saw if you treat it right.

Hi and thanks for all the replies.

I've had a fair go at the Ozito.
Had to adjust it about 2 degrees and now cuts perfectly.

The 24 tooth saw cuts fine for my 90 and 45 degree cuts.

Can't even see where the saw was cutting.

The Ozito 800 has the see thru guard but no safety lock.

I've just mounted it on a couple of 45 x 90 -short on the left and long on the right. And a couple of cross pieces cut to give the right height for additional table support.

Now I can take it anywhere without having to worry if its level or not.

It's quite solid, light, and easy to carry around.

It's almost quiet compared to the Triton.

Has anyone see the dust bag on the shelves yet? They didn't have it at Bunnings when I bought it.

I know I saw a plan of a mitre saw table.

The plan had a long table with a miter saw recessed into it.
The plan had an additional vacuum attachment at the back to help with the dust the miter vaccuum attachment missed.

Has anyone else seen it? Please let me know.

I just can't believe its $100AU which is about $50US. It even comes with the 2 year warranty.

I'm also buying mine as a throw away. If I really get into using compound miters I'll buy an expensive one sometime down the track as well.
