Source for Comparing Tablesaws
I'm a rookie wood worker and am just starting to build out my shop. I've been scouring the Web looking for a good source to compare table saws. Specifically, I'm building out the storage area above my garage so I'm space constrained and a bit weight constrained (a cabinet table saw could be too heavy). I'm looking for a top quality contractor's table saw, minimum 2 hp and in the $600 - $1,000 price range. I've put $725 down on a General International, 2 hp, 10" contractor's saw with a 30" fence at a retailer but am finding that as I learn more on the Web I'm finding other seemingly comparable options for less dollars, e.g., Grizzly G0444Z for $615 (left tilt).
If you have a good Web site or publication you could refer me to I'd be very grateful. I'm also open to any other suggestions since, again, I'm pretty much a virgin to wood working.

Shouldn't you be asking this on your USA forums? Not many of the tablesaws sold in the USA are available in Australia. For example, I have never seen Grizzly or General Inernational for sale here. Have only read and drooled about them in yankee magazines.

US v. Australian Forum
I didn't know this was primarily an Australian forum. Good suggestion to check out US forums. However, I found that burns' response was exactly what I was looking for-- many thanks.

I just had a look a the link that burn posted.
WOW, it was very informative and contained a lot of info that i wouldnt ever think to ask about.
Of particular note was the comparisons between the different saws on the market, albeit in the USA.
Forgetting about the exchange rates, why cant an Aussie magazine do a comparison in the ilk.
Perhaps dean may be able to do a reveiw of this sort on his site.if you always do as you have always done, you will always get what you have always got

If nothing else, I found that the comparison Web site that Burn referred me to confirmed that the saw that I'm buying (General International) is a good fit for me. Thanks (Cheers!)

Steve, you should also consider JET and Delta. They both make good contactors saws for your price range.
Good luck
