Default What would you pay for Makita router

    Hey all,

I have the opportunity to buy a Makita 3600 router. It comes with some cheap bits and the asking price is about $130. It looks as though it's had some use. What would you pay for something like this and do you know how old it actually is?

Can it be mounted to a Triton Router table?

    Any replies grateful.

that's what i have, i bought mine 10-12 yrs ago for $269, they'd been out before that, so it could be 15yrs, maybe...the equivilent now would set you back about $360..there fantastic machine. start it up, if it sounds smooth then it should be fine, there very noisy but very smooth, if it has any grinding or funny sound then leave it alone...and check with makita too if you can still get parts, i'm sure you can...offer the seller $100...don't worry about the router bits to much, your better off getting brand new ones to suit your needs...

I would say that a used Makita 3600 is going to be a better unit than the equivalant $130 new GMC etc.

Give the unit a good going over prior to purchase.

Yes it can be table mounted.

mate a second hand washing machine is of more value than new GMC/cheapy brand...never ever go there, my 3600 still purrs like a kitten, and my circular saw (same age) has had more use and abbuse then any machine could bare, and it still goes better than a new GMC could ever hope to be ...if it sounds good then just buy the dam thing, and start routering something...

buy, design, build= lots of achivement and pride ...(repeat this over and over to yourself )

    Default Good One

Tiger, I bought a used Makita, a 3600b which has a square base and goes like a rocket. Its mounted in a triton table. I paid 120 for it three years ago. I also have a 3600br which I bought new and it is probably the better router. Its ten year old and the 3600b is probably 17 to 20 year old.

Make sure the collet is done up and plug it in, should be a nice smooth feeling.
They are fairly noisy but smooth.

    Regards Mike

I have a 3601 (non-plunge, 'D' handle variety) router. This is a great router - the 3600 was more expensive at the time otherwise I guess I would have gone for the plunge functionality...... Just check if it is a 3600 or 3601.
