Default Would you do this to your plunge saw?

Just replaced the wired festool with a makita battery plunge saw. Looks like the track is exactly the same, but the makita 1400mm track sells for $97 v festool's $235. I needed to cut some flooring in an old Queenslander, and made the decision to cut the track itself. Next week I am going to buy another 2 tracks and cut them to suit typical door openings in old houses.

For the festool owners, take a close look at the makita track. I am yet to try the festool on the makita track, but will have a go next week

Festool track saw also works on the ozito tracks but the ozito tracks are not as well built as the festool ones IMO especially if jointing them together for longer cuts. I can't comment on the makita one but I've been tossing up adding a cordless Makita or festool ts55 to my current ts75.

I can recommend the Makita. For me it was an easy decisions, I have Makita batteries, lots of. The other bonus was the 165mm blade, which is a lot easier to buy, the second is the AWS for duct collection.

Since purchasing it, I reckon the Makita settings are just easier to use. Plus tracks are cheap, and I can cut them to size!

If the ozito tracks fit but are no good for joining, they’d be the ones to
cut up ? Half the cost of the Makita

I have checked the Makita track with my Festool saw when I needed to buy more track, yes it fits but you need to adjust the guide cams to take the slack ( movement) out of it
That would be fine except I would need to re adjust it back when I wanted to use the Festool track so you need to stick with one brand of track.

The main difference between the two saws from what I can see is that the Makita doesn’t have a riving knife.
When I got my Festool saw they came with a bonus second track so price was comparable to the Makita option at the time

I was just asking this yesterday at a both brands tool shop. Clincher for me is the Makita 3 metre track is $285 supplied in a wood shipping box. I am over using joiners.

One observation about the accessories: I bought a pair of Makita track clamps as extras-they aren’t at all as nice as the Festool branded ones.

I bought a set of De Walt track which are quick action clamps, fit the Makita guide rail and are cheap compared to the Festool.
