Panasonic, Metabo, Bosch, Fein (not sure). If money is not a consideration, I would buy a brushless drill and an impact driver. The latter would be Panasonic, the former Festool's C12.

Trade colleagues have found Panasonic Li-Ion bullet proof and many like the 28V Milwaukee gear too - http://www.milwaukee-et.com/int/int_...ument&nav1=pro

the sweetest drill I've used is the new panasonic followed closely by the Makita "compact" that you can get over the internet. I used to go the biggest I could get my hands on ...... but trying to hang a door with a 5kg drill isn't any fun

If you're planning on doing any brain surgery on the side, then Igor recommends a Bosch.

    Ab-so-f_____-lutely!!!
Most sweetest thing. Spins so smooth. The chuck on the drill is the best by far. Batteries are the best on the market. I could go on and on. I bought the Pana Lithium Ion 14.4v Combination Kit.

Man, you know what.....just go buy it. You weill love it. And like irbrill said about the 5kg and hanging the door thing.....he knows what he's talking about. Now I'm dying for a peee........See ya.

Can someone from America please explain the fascination they seem to have with using big heavy cordless tools when for the average handyman 14V is more than enough. Given the brushless motors coming onto the market there is now absolutely no need to go bigger than 14V and Panasonic or Festool really are the pick of the bunch with a lot of good brands tying for second place.

For 99% of my drilling needs I have a pair of metabo cordless 12v little beauties.
When they don't cut the mustard I get the 1/2 inch corded makita out. But boy is it heavy and cumbersome by comparison.

Hey, I'm new at this grandfather business.

Congratulations....great to hear. Wish you all the best.
Personally, with two girls I do not wish to become a grandfather for a very very long time.
Once again.....Congratulations and may the families grow.

    Cheers,
    Dr - 307.
