Thread: powered respirator, full face or 1/2 face??

I'd be interested in hearing other's experience on this as well. Until this week, I had never worn any sort of breathing protection. As I was ripping up two dozen lengths of Karri, I thought I would give the old face mask a go. Boy, was I surprised at the amount of dust in accumulated, and how clean my nostrils were that evening!

I'm keen on something a bit more robust though.

anyhow i bought a decent 1/2 face single filter massk and a couple filters for it

reasonably comfortable and seems to work well

thought the triton was a pretty expensive toy actually with way too many complicated bits to break

I have no idea of a good resperator but i'm pretty keen on finding 1 so i'll hang in here & read with great interest.

See my previous posts. Yes the triton isn't 3M quality, but I use mine probably more than any other single tool I own.

Mine has never flowed right from new. Triton offered to replace the battery pack but I haven't pressed the matter. Mine has never broken. Complex ? well not if you consider a half face still requires you to put on safety glasses and possibly ear protection and maybe even head protection. With the triton it's an all-in-one. Expensive ? Industrial quality units START at $600. If you can find a cheaper one please let me know as I'd like a second set of headgear. Even in the blazing sun it's not unbearably hot to wear, the face shield doesn't fog up, uses standard filters....

I've used better units, but I'm not prepared to pay the $ for home use. 2c...

I don't use it that often, especially since I put my DC outside my shed, but when I do my Triton mask has been good to very good. I use it mainly when ripping wood since that sprays dust all over the place. The times I don't like using it is when it's very hot as I start to feel a bit claustrophobic in it. I thought I would use it a lot more when milling timber but the place where I do that is relatively close to the coast and there always seems to be a breeze about.

The triton is terrific if it isn't too hot. It does a great job of keeping the muck out of my lungs. However, when it's hot and I start to sweat, I want to wipe my forehead and feel some breeze on my face, so I open the shield and that defeats the purpose.

I bought a half face, 2 filter mask from Bunnings as a supplement to the triton for those times when the triton becomes too unbearable. It doesn't work as well as the triton even with the gas filters but it keeps most of dust out. I have the safety glasses but forgo the ear and head protection on these days.

How hot does your workshop get? If it can get uncomfortably hot when you aren't wearing protection, the triton won't help you cool down.

i have worked a lot with 1/2 face masks - the green rubber ones and they are awful on a bad day - the one i bought at rsea is silicone and quite a bit lighter - it has one filter instead of the 2 i am used to - no way round it they are bad to wear - but with ashma like i got now its either wear one or stay outa the workshop -
