Pyro Burners
Hi, I'm wanting to know if anyone knows where I can bulk purchase the wire used in pyro burners - I am a woodwork teacher in a secondary School and the kids love using the pyro burners - typical kids though - always turning it up too high or pressing too hard and breaking the wire. buying the replacment wires is costing us a fortune and I'm thinking that surely there must be somewhere I can buy this wire in bulk - just can't for the life of me find out where. any advice would be greatly appreciated

pyrography nibs
Gregg,
Try Sue Walters website (Aus) I think it will answer your problems. It also has other information and material that I am sure you will find more than useful. There are of course others that supply the pens and wire. You can also buy nicro (I think) wire from electronics shops, like Dick Smith that can be used to make your own nibs. Hope this helps. Drillit.

Stuff you are looking for is Nichrome (nickel chrome) wire. It is the wire used in most semiflexible electrical heater elements, (radiators, old style kettles, toasters etc). Generally available from electronics shops in a single size, which may be too small for your application.
As an alternative, if you know a sparky, you may be able to get a fried hot water water heater element for nix which should give you a good supply of medium size wire.
If you need larger still, you would need to track down a wholesaler.
