Question about finishing guns...
Hi,
Inspired by a recent post on here I've just bought a 40L 2.5hp "Performance Air" compressor with a view to buying a finishing gun.
I've been looking around but it seems that there are really cheap guns from brands like Warrior for $60 - $90, or expensive guns eg Paslode, Senco, DeWalt etc for $500-ish.
Are there any reasonable quality guns for reasonable prices? Where's a good place to buy? How safe is it to buy second hand? Are the "cheapies" any good or do they fall apart in 6 months?
Would really appreciate any comments, as air tools are new to me...
Thanks!

I bought a Senco bradder secondhand from the Melbourne trading post 5 years ago.
I paid about half the new price for it, the guy selling it used it to nail down his verandah, and thats all.
I also got 6 boxes of nails in with the deal.
Now if I have to put in more that 6 nails I get the Senco out.

wulf,
buying 2ndhand is ok, providing it's a name brand gun that's in working condition and you can still get parts for it! There are some name brand tools that have long been out of production and you can no longer get parts for. Best bet is to ring a service agent to check. And the cardinal rule of 2ndhand buying applies as always, know how much it costs new. I bought my Bostitch N50FN secondhand about 15 years and about 300,000 nails ago. Just spent about $90 getting it rebuilt a year or so ago.

Thanks Major. I was looking at a Senco for $512 but I might check that one out - half the price.

i have used paslode, senco and the cheapies over my time. i really like the paslode. i hated the senco, due to the heavy gauge nails it uses. a lot of chippies like the senco but when knocking up carcases, they can be an overkill.
i bought a trade tools finishing gun for $240.00 and it has been excellent. and they carry the parts for them so they tell me.
