Default ? re abbot and ashby 8 inch bench grinder

just a quick question here...can someone please tell me what the thread size is for the A&A bench grinder 200mm, model no ATBGU/8 is??, i just bought one of these from B*nnings and there is no information that comes with it in its box. I want to get some polishing buffs for it but dont know what size spindles i need. Checked the importer's site - but its not working at moment. Are there 2 different versions of the 200mm grinder??..i have a grey one, but have heard people mentioning something about a ???green one. Is there any diff?
    thanks in advance

I've just bought a tapered spindle from Glenfords for $50+ before finding them at Bunnies for $20

Glenfords only had one size of spindle for the 8" grinder and one for the 6". I measured mine and it is 16mm.

Works like a treat at polishing brass door knobs, but boy is it fast!

    Good luck.

Missed out saying I've got an 8" A&A as well, but I don't know what model it is.

The older Australian made Abbot & Ashby were 5/8" Whitworth 11 TPI threaded spindles. I suspect the newer imported units are 16mm; as you now own one you can check the thread pitch with a thread gauge to see if it is 2mm or 1.5mm pitch.

thanks for that richard, i'm looking at getting some extended adaptors online from Caswell plating so can fit a couple of buffs on to each adaptor, i think if i go that way i may not have to get the tapered spindle itself but needed to know what the thread size was so they can get the right adaptor to fit. Sorry to hear about the price diff...bunnings sold 2 spindles per packet - 1 imperial and 1 metric...so you still had to buy 2 packets and then have 2 left over spindles...seems a bit strange but oh well

For that size thread you could measure the distance between the thread peaks with a metric steel rule to see which pitch applies; it will be either 2.0mm (metric coarse) or 1.5mm (metric fine).
