Default Replacing the velcro on an orbital sander pad

G'day guys. I normally hang out at the metal work part of the site, so apologies if I ask a question that has been done to death.
I have a variable speed Hitachi random orbital speed sander (FSV 13Y). It was borrowed and the pad has come back next to useless. The local power tool place will charge me $70 for a replacement. The internet is not much better as the pad is far cheaper in the US, but the shipping kills it.
Has anyone managed to reline the pad with new velcro? Does it work? any other ideas (besides not loaning tools without training - I've been using it for so long that I'd forgotten there is a technique to using it)

    Michael

Hook material is available in sheet form from abrasive supplies as suggested by wheelinround, and is economical if you use a lot. Norton also supply a range of styles of precut disks. Cheaper than sheets if you only need one but way more expensive if used regularly. When I was working in a polishing shop we were changing pads on a weekly basis, so sheets were the economical way to go. We found that factory pads lasted about 3 times longer than stick on ones, but stick replacements were much cheaper.

They can be peeled and replaced but it takes a bit to clear the heat affected glue off the pad.

My local Bunnings has some sizes of the Norton precut hook disks.

The Sandpaperman, one of the Forum sponsors, lists stick on replacements discs, around $5 each.
