Review New Jointer
Well straight from the cartons here (for what it is worth) is my initial review of the new jointer. Jinteng/Carbatec/Delta brand (6" Prefessional).
Documentation
Pretty good apart from a few instances (explained later). Very easy to follow, I also downloaded the Delta documents just in case of any problems.
Unpacking
Piece of cake, everything was in the boxes except for one washer.
Set Up
Started off pretty good, bit fiddly trying to bolt the cabinet to the main bed, not a lot of room to see the hole alignment and allen key turning.
I had a major problem with trying to align the pully from the motor and the cutting head. The documents showed how to do it but the pictured showed something else. The motor was as far back on its ajustable base as possible, but was still a good 50 odd mm out of alignment. I turned the blade pully around and it was still out. Called the owner from the shop and he reluctantly came out to see the problem. He agreed it did not look right. I then pulled out the blade pully to match the motor pully and while it was aligned, the pully was about 15mm off of the shaft. After a bit of disageeement with the store owner, I did accept that it might not be a "major" problem. I'm still a bit concerned about the overall strain on the blade bearings given that the shaft length has now increased a bit. I will write to the importers for some clarification.
According to the manual pictures, no pullys need to be reversed. If anyone is interested I can post and replies I get.
The rest of the machine came together pretty well, very useful instructions in the documentation. The infeed and outfeed adjustments were very straight forward. I have my zero point stop set to take off about 0.5mm.
Operation
Tried a few test cuts, they came our very well, it machined warped pieces very flat. However I did have a bit of trouble getting two square faces. I set the stops on the fence but I'm have trouble replicating the same setting. This might come with a bit of experience.
My overall opinion is that for the price ($600) it will do me OK, but time will tell.
