Riving knife thickness?
Hi folks,
I have a Sherwood (orange!) MJ2331 12" contractor's table saw.
The standard blades from Torquata (which are fine, I have several) have a 3.2mm kerf, and this suits the thickness of the riving knife.
My question, however, relates to a thin kerf blade (2.4mm) that I have: Where can I get, or have fabricated, a suitably thinner riving knife?
Cheers!

Hi Auld,
Your Lucky you have a pattern. Isn't only a question of finding a suitably thicknessed metal and copying it.
My table saw had none attached and I had to guess what the original may have looked like. The one I made seems to work as intended.

Auld,
There was a thread about this issue late last year I think...something about the knife being slightly thinner than the blade or the cut/kerf. At work we had to change the thickness by grinding and filing to fine tune it. I guess mild steel will be OK, but if it gets bent, problems can arise 'straightening' it (read 'dog-leg' ) and the knife will bind in the kerf, just like its too thick.
Cheers,Andy Mac
Change is inevitable, growth is optional.
