    Default Rockler Portable Drill Guide

    Hi all.

Just starting out in woodworking and for my bench project I need to drill some angled and straight holes. A drill press is somewhere in the distant future provided money and a workshop space make an appearance. In the meantime I'm considering one of these which I think I'll have to buy from the US as I can't find it here.

Rockler Portable Drill Guide - Rockler

I'm a fan of quality gear, reasonably priced and this seems to fit the bill...says the novice.

    Thoughts, comments, alternatives welcome.

    Cheers.

    Welcome to the forum Mark.
Have a look on Timbecon's site for a Milescraft version.
Melbourne and Perth a bit closer than the US.
BTW I have one and quite like it.
    Cheers

I forgot to mention that if you make a frame to hold it you can also use it for horizontal drilling.
I have and it works well.

    Thanks Keith.

I had looked at the Milescraft guide but one thing I didn't like was the fixed drill angles. The Rockler guide can be set to an angle up to 60 deg.

    Cheers.

If you’re buying that as a drill press replacement, by the time you’ve shipped it from the US you’ll have spent as much as just buying a small drill press.

Thanks for that. Looks a lot like the Carbatec guide, which I've ordered as Rockler wouldn't respond to my enquiry.

I'm not sure if General Tools (also USA) is still making their version, and their website's not behaving tonight; but you might check (https://generaltools.com. I've got one, and it's a pretty decent tool.

That’s on my medium term shopping list - just waiting for the right special to coincide with a solvent patch in my finances.
