Ryobi Biscuit Joiner
Hi guys,
I've got myself a nice load of celery top pine with plans to make a dining table for our first home. Previously I have used the old faithful method of drilling and dowelling not so important projects with OK results.
Not wanting to risk ruining my lot of celery top I am looking at a biscuit joiner to put together my table top nicely. I did a ring around to all the hire places but nobody seems to stock them down here.
I've found a Ryobi for $100 at Bunnings and was wondering if anyone here had any prior experience with these? I really cant justify spending $350+ on a DeWalt of Makita as much as I'd love to run out and buy one.
Anyway here's the Ryobi. I'm open to suggestions if there are other options around the same price range...
RYOBI Tools
Cheers,
Paul

check out if OZITO have a biscuit joiner, their tools are fine for the home handyman , and less expensive.

biscuit joiner
I have the same Ryobi biscuit joiner and it works well except that it doesn't seem to cut deep enough for #20 biscuits. This doesn't matter as I just rasp the biscuits a bit narrower. However, much as I'd like to indulge on a better one, I can't justify it because the Ryobi does the job.

We've had an Ozito for a couple of years or 3.
It has never let us down.

Thanks for the responses guys.I'll swing by bunnings later in the week and take a look at the Ozito and Ryobi and hopefully make a decision.
I'll try and do a step by step of my celery top table with photos too.
Cheers,
Paul

Paul,
The Ryobi I have (it's the older one, it's about 10 years old) does the job just fine. Have had no problems with it and it's done a quite few hundred biscuits in its time.
Stewart,
There is a depth adjuster, just set it so the No 20 slots in.

Go to Aldi on Saturday and grab one of theirs for $50 - their powertools are pretty good and warranted as well.

I saw the Aldi advert too but since my Ryobi suits my needs and has done for about 3 years there is no need for a replacement.
For those who have not seen the Aldi catalogue they have a wide selection of clamps on sale this Saturday which look pretty good on the surface.

Each to his/her own but I will never buy tools from ALDI. I may be wrong but I suspect that ALDI tools hold similar build quality as stuff from The Reject Shop and I can vouch that is utter garbage (angle grinder that does not hold grinding wheel tight with nut fully tightened). These days I'm in a position to spend a little more on tools and I prefer Makita, Metabo, Fein. I understand that not everyone can spend top $ but please do yourself a favour and avoid ALDI and Ozito (my personal opinion only, Ozito may be OK for you).
The reason I say this is not because I'm some sort of jerky toolsnob but because I used to buy cheap stuff only to replace with more expensive stuff later because the cheap bits failed me. It took me a long time to learn the hard way that cheap tools is false economy. Please learn from my costly mistakes even if you have to save a little longer.
On the subject of biscuit joiners, here's the Ferrari....Lamello (no I don't own one):

Just my .2c...

I grabbed one on the Aldi biscuit joiners a few years ago in a $30 clearance bin, thinking it would be handy for home use instead of borrowing the Lamello's from work.
Problem is after 18 years of having access to Lamello's, I used the Aldi one once and threw it in the back of the cupboard in disgust. Takes forever to adjust and then goes out of adjustment after one cut, plus its noisy and blunt.
Save your bickies (pun intended) and have a look at the Dewalt machine for $350, which are pretty decent quality.
