    Default Ryobi cordless drill.

have 2 18V Ryobi cordless drills both have served well over years and I got them S/H.
I dropped one off the ladder last week and its bug gerd, wont go, kaput. It has a far better griping chuck than the other one, so thinking here if I swap the chucks over Ive still got a good one. But how do I remove them? It appears a very fat phillips head down the guts...correct or am I mistaken.

Ideas on how to remove swop over please.

I still have 2 other Ryobi drills plus 2 drivers and a dedicated hammer drill.
I would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

Usually reversible drills have a screw down the centre with a lefthand thread. This prevents the chuck coming undone when in reverse. Just remove the screw and you should be able to unscrew the chuck with a bit of force.

I have a collection of old battery drive drill chucks, also some corded heavy duty ones, but the battery driven ones are quite similar.

Of the seven battery drive drill chucks chucks on the shelf, one is a slot screwdriver version, one is an Allen key head which surprisingly is 7/64" which I just checked, two are Pozidrive the rest are Phillips head, so check carefully before starting as from personal experience I know they become a bit of a bugger to unscrew if the head is stripped or damaged.

Once you have the screw out, place a 10mm or appropriately sized Allen key in the chuck, short end. Then grip your drill in something like a wood vice so as not to damage or crush the casing, then with a hammer or mallet, tap reasonably quickly the long end of the Allen key and the chuck should release. One simply unscrews the chuck and you are there.

got the screw undone, placed allen key in and tried shifting, no a hope this side black stump.
Chatted and shared with couple of mates and suspect the gearbox is shagged. Oh well $140 and a new one is now on the bench.
