"Band sander"
Anyone know of a cheap ?band sander? - like a bandsaw in concept, but uses a 1" belt of sandpaper (without a support behind, so not like a linisher).
If I knew what it was called it would be easier to describe!"Clear, Ease Springs"

Stuart,
Do you mean a Delta 1" belt sander as shown on http://svc010.bne011i.server-web.com....html?cache=no ?
If so, recently Carbatec Melbourne sold their own brand similar to that for approx $ 90.
Peter.

Gasweld stores sell a similar machine, without the disc sander on the side - I have one.
Not bad. Has it's flaws, but good value. I'm going to buy a Delta sometime - but because I want two. Bloody handy machine. The Australian Woodworkers Database - over 3,500 Aussie Woods listed: http://www.aussiewoods.info/

Replacement Belts
Where are replacement belts available? I have made enquiries from some specialist machinery places, who have directed me to commercial belt manufacturers.
I have gone no further with my research thus far.
Timbecon used to have one as well.
Cheers

Gasweld carry the odd one around here. They tend to be hard to find though - especially in anything but a couple of grits.
Carbatec carry 60, 120 & 240 for $3.50 each.
I just ordered a bunch of belts from Lee Valley and got them the other day. They have really excellent quality blue zirconia belts for US$1.70, normal belts cheaper again, and 3M 15 micron belts for fine sharpening for US$2.75.
