Sales Time
Just a quick heads-up on a couple of sales.
MIK have one on selected items and if you email them they will email you a catalogue.
Carba Tec Sydney have a sale coming up in early June with discounts across the store.
eg 10inch 3HP tablesaw for $849 down from $995.
They are even discounting LN tools.
Have a look at their websites if you are interested.
Regards

I hope there won't be a bunch of pre-WWW show 'grab the dollar' sales this year. It's better if they have the sales at the show IMHO, it attracts the punters.

And Hafco (Hare and Forbes) Sydney are having a sale from 8/06/07 to 16/06/07 with 15% of everything badged Hafco. They don't go to the show but this sale is designed to appeal to show goers.
Leda have a 10% off sale at the show (or coinciding with the show - I don't know if they are there this year?).
I just happened to contact some suppliers yesterday via email regarding a TS and dustie combo. I also contacted Carbatec with no reply yet and Gregory Machinery with no reply yet. I've pretty much decided on a 10" TS at the cheap end of the market so I'm looking at the Jet contractor saw, and the Leda/Carbatec/Hafco chinese model which looks to be the same machine but perhaps Leda has the edge of those three in quality control. I will look at the Carbatec site again, and plan on paying them a visit tomorrow.Bob C.
Never give up.

Hi TA
Make sure it's the Sydney CarbaTec site.
Look at the News and Events heading in the first page.
Download the pdf file which is their sale brochure.
See here:

I've been burnt before with Carbatec's pre-show sales - the price I was offered at the sale seemed good, but when I finally went to the show on Sunday afternoon, that was the starting price on the same gear at the show, and of course I didn't have my invoice in my pocket to get stuck into them.
The major convenience of a 'pre-shop' is the free parking at Carbatec if you have a suitable vehicle, and smaller crowds. If you want something big, you are just as likely to have to pay for delivery where ever you buy/order.

Special Sales
I have been in touch by phone to Sydney Carba-tec and the delivery price from Sydney to Cooma [my house] is $180 and I may have to arrange to get it off the truck. So I will take the ute to Sydney to pick up the $849 cabinet saw. The local hire shop have a mobile lifter for taking motors from cars @ $26 1/2 day that should do it. Now with the money I am saving should I get a Biesemeyer type fence. I am moving up from a Triton saw bench where you have to set each end of the fence for each different cut a real pain.I would doubt it the fence supplied with saw is not up to standard. I would like your help, particularly if you have used both. I rip material in 6 widths from 280mm to 50mm by 1500mm long. I use a planer to straighten the face edge and I have a electric plane on the side of the Triton saw bench to get the width spot on. I have never used a thicknesser, would it do the job like my setup now, better faster?
sorry for the long post
thanks

Les88, I had a look at both fences in the Leda showroom in Adelaide. The standard fence appeared quite reasonable, although the Biesemeyer style fence had a greater reach.
If you are saving money by getting the Biesemeyer fence and not the standard one, as in the case of the Leda saw, I would be inclined to go for the Biesemeyer. If however it doesn't save you any money, I would be inclined to wait and use the standard fence for a while.
The Leda Biesemeyer style fence is available at $286 including GST, which at around $1100 still makes it a cheap saw.
They also sell the sliding attachment separately.
I wonder if C/tec Melbourne would match that price, have to find out on Monday.
