    Default New Sander

Having been in the market for a sander of some sort, I was pleased to see the local Giles Toolshed having a special on sanders.

Reduced $200 it made for a very tempting proposition. One which I took

Sanding has always been the most difficult task in my shop having only hand held belt sanders & orbitals.

Well not anymore. $300.00 for this little beauty....I do so love bargains

Final assembly and testing the main part and the wood selected for a test run.
The wood is a very old piece of western red cedar.

And finally the results of the test, the side table and mitre guage fitted and the position next to the saw (it's final resting place)

The test was carried out using the standard 80 grit belt that comes with the machine. I bought a 100 and 150 grit belts as well.

The sander disc is a velcroe tearoff type. I just have to contact glue the base plate to the disc.
Having a 3/4 HP motor gives it plenty of grunt. Pressing the wood heavily against the deck of the sander will eventually stall it, but its unlikely that will happen in normal use. I will make a further two roller stand to support longer pieces when being sanded.

The dust extraction port worked well when hooked up to the mini cyclone. A little bit made its way to the floor but not of any great amount.(third piccy in the above post)

The base will be replaced with a purpose built plywood rolling cabinet that will house spare sander belts.

All in all I am quietly pleased with the quality of the machine and its performance.
Now its time to go bargain hunting for a 14 inch bandsaw

Wow. Got yourself a good deal there. $300 must be a bargain even in NZ dollars.

Does the belt part have a fence or is it BYO? What brand is the machine?
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

I saw the name MOrgan on the side which means nothing to me, it looks the same as most I have seen with the usual badge engineering.
Good price though, looks a fair brute, watch your fingers.
