dark side moment
boys
i have to share this moment with you, after watering the garden and putting the dishes away my other half said go to the shed for a while dear.
i ran down to the back shed opened the door put some music on and pondered what to do first.
i selected some hardwood 100 x 50,s that i found on the side of the road set them up in the vice grabbed an old wooden plane and started to level the wood ready to join with dowels.(i am making a wooden base with wheels to put my wine barrel on )
the plane worked fine but harder to push through the wood than the 4 1/2 record, after i finished i pulled the old plane blade out,man was it blunt:eek: anyway i gave the wood plane a bath in some linseed oil and turps and will sharpen the blade tomorow, wax the base and put it back together
just to spend 1 hour in the shed fiddling around that is great
merry christmas

Today will be sharpen kitchen knives day, love it when the big chefs knife weight alone will put it straight through a tomatoe.
SWMBO doesn't like sharps knives, too dangerous she reckons, watch her force the knife through things screaming for a slip.
I just don't tell her when I'm sharpening now.Stupidity kills. Absolute stupidity kills absolutely.

Lashed out a while ago and bought SWMBO a set of carbon steel laminated Japanese Knives, funny things, one looks like a small Chinese chopper and one is hollow ground on one side so you sharpen one side and just very lightly wipe the other side on the waterstone.
You talk about sharp, you've heard about the Ghurka taking a swipe at a bloke and then telling him to shake his head, well they're that sharp.

You demoted him, it was Corporal Jones. Great show, like most english comedies of the era. Allo Allo, Goodies, Monty Python, Benny Hill, Ab Fab etc etc, sorry America, yuor comedies just dont have the same sort of appeal to me.

Japanese knives and swords are just inspirational, amazing what can be done.
I wonder if any hand planes have had the same blades fitted?

Thankyou Capt Mainwaring Sir, I would have remembered eventually.
Termite, I think I have seen those blades in planes, and the style is called Damascus where the metal (or metals) are folded and beaten resulting in a pattern on the blade.Stupidity kills. Absolute stupidity kills absolutely.

G'day Bennylaird,
No-one does a comedy like the Poms - Love Thy Neighbour, Robins Nest, Blackadder, The Goodies, Open All Hours, I could go on but the darkside is drawing me back to the thread.
Hand planes and timber - droooooooooooollllllll.
