Sander Polisher
My husband is wanting to purchase a sander polisher for his woodwork. He was lent a Makita variable speed to try and liked it. Has anyone any views on the Makita or is there a better brand in this type of tool. He wants it more for the sanding and says it is a lot quicker than the belt sander. Must have soft start and prefers the handle on the top. Thanks guys.....Ditty

Festo
Never used one myself but my understanding is that it is the pinnacle of sanders.
Look for the Rotex RO150ENow proudly sponsored by Binford Tools. Be sure to check out the Binford 6100 - available now at any good tool retailer.

ABSOLUTELY A great machine to use....have had mine a little while now and wondered what I did without it.
A lot of thought gone into producing the Rotex 150 by Festo.
Once you have used it you'll never look back!

The bigger Makita with the long handle similar to the picutre above is said to be the next best thing to the rotex (other than the festool eccentric 3mm and 5 mm models).
I've used the Makita only briefly and my thoughts were that its features are better than anything cheaper than it including the metabo with simialr dual orbit function. For some reason the festo seems smoother, but at what price given that final sanding should be done by hand. I'd be happy with either and know that each is more than capable to do the intended job.
One other point is the Festo 3 year waranty - I'm not sure of Makita's but one their saws and routers I recall the warranty cards have only been for 1 year. It'd take a lot to kill in 1 year but I've killed others in less than 3.

hi people, I have been reading the forums for the past 4 months, I have learn a lot from all the people here and finally decided to join.
Just a question to those people who has used Rotex 150. I planning to purchase one soon, but I am just wanting to know how does it perform as a polisher compare to sole purposes poliisher?

If you can afford the festo good luck to you.
I have had a metabo now for a few years and its great.
two mates have also baught one after driving mine.
metabo duo cant remember the number.
6 inch pad
dust extraction
variable speed.
selectable orbit size.
under $400
were on special at the brisbane wood show for $315
great machine a joy.
make sure to use it connected to a vacume cleaner, it makes any random orbit machine soooo much better to use.

Hi WHATEVER, unfortunately I cannot answer your question re polishing with the Rotex 150 as I use a dedicated Hitachi polisher with a larger polisher mop but there may of course be others (and there are many on this BB)who have used theirs for polishing.
I cannot see why it should not perform admirably in the polishing mode...given the design and thought that has gone into this machine.

Metabo model number is SXE450 DUO, it got variable speed and 3mm/6mm orbit, easy to select / change with a button; RRP $415; It was on special at local Gasweld shop for $369. It works well, specially at low speads with 3mm orbit for finer finish. It is expensive. I use it for finish sanding, up to 240grit, then for burnishing. The finer finish suits my application.
Festo Rotex150 is 5mm orbit (I think); quicker sanding but much more expensive- RRP $700app as per pervious posts and fixed (more or less) orbit diameter.

Used a rotex last night to 're-polish' my own table. I'd previously hand rubbed the finish with eee and a wax. After removing the wax I attacked it with the rotex with a polishing pad attached and a mixture of eee and other stuff. With rotex on and a fast orbit it did the trick in no time at all. If anything you have to be careful to be even across the surface as this machine can make things happen very quickly.
