    Default Scarsten Scrapers

After many moons residing in the cobweb region of my I just rediscovered my Scarsten scraper only to fin that the blade needs replacing. I have just tried to obtain new blades only to be told that they are out of production (reportedly the factory burned down).
Does anyone know if this is true and/or where blades might be available.
The scraper is the small "palm" model with a timber flat handle about 65x75x20 and a steel blade holder about 65 long along the leading edge.
Any suggestions will be greatfully received
    ThanX

I hope not. I bought a couple of spare blades a few years ago for both my large and small Skarstens and I find that if I'm careful, they can be sharpened many times with a fine file before they have to be thrown away. They're getting a bit low now after all these years, so I will be in your predicament soon!

Not sure of availability in your part of the world, but the Faithful brand of scraper looks to be awfully similar.

If you saw the post from UKAlf and followed the link you will have seen the faithful scraper. As Alf noted it looks very similar.
I am going to enquire about purchase from here and will post on the result so you can follow up if you want

    Default Skarsten scrapers

Try this link and you will find that you can still buy them here in Pommy land.
Note the correct spelling. You Aussies need to read the brands on your tool properly.

    Default scraper blades

I have picked up a few packets of different size skarsten blades at small harware stores like the old Biz Buz stores - some with old stock. I have a vague memory that I saw some in a bunnies a while ago but they would have got rid of them now i'm sure - not a high volume item.
    regards

Cheers for that, I'll check the link.
Mate, my scraper is so old any brand that was on it has retired and popped its clogs long ago.

    Default Skarsten scrapers

Sorry for giving you a bum steer on that scraper.
It is quite nice here in the summer but the winters tend to drag out .
We will be moving home in a year or 2. We originally came here for 2 years and have now been here 8. Can't stay too long or I might have to become an England rugby and cricket supporter.

I have 20 original Skarsten blades.
The Skarsten Scraper is maybe the best furniture scraper ever made and unfortunately ended production about 14 years ago.
The new scrapers are nothing like them, expert Restorers will confirm new scrapers are terrible in comparison!
I use them to restore Ercol chairs. One tungsten steel blade (hook) can restore well over 20 expensive chairs.
I own the 80mm and the 62mm and have 4 unopened packets of original hook blades now for sale individually...
    Contact me if interested..
