I wanted a new sliding compound mitre saw so after selling my old one to a forum member I ordered a new Bosch glide saw from Sydney Tools on May 24. Due to supply shortages they kept stalling me for a delivery so I ended up cancelling the deal and Sydney Tools refunded the money. Sydney Tools had the best price by far ($1149.00) and included three blades and a stand. I ended up buying the Bosch glide saw at Total Tools in Hoppers Crossing ($949.00 saw only). It is a heavy, heavy item. I struggled to get it up and into the back of my Landcruiser. I got it home and set it up. It is big, and did I mention it is heavy. Anyways, I fixed it to the bench and made a few cuts. Not bad but not square. Sorted that but there is just too much movement in the sliding mechanism which can result in inaccurate cuts. A small bit of pressure either way and the cuts are not square or the correct angle. It is great for a carpenter doing house frames or decking but just not quite exact enough for furniture applications. It had a fair bit of run out in the blade, checked with the dial gauge. The dust collection was a joke with sawdust spraying everywhere and I had it connected to the big vacuum. I cleaned it all up and took it back and Total Tools were happy to take it back. Customer service fantastic. I asked to see what else they had. He pointed to the Festool Kapex behind me, which I hadn't even noticed. I had always ignored the Festool stuff as to me it seemed way too expensive but after a second or two of careful study I lashed out the cash $1695.00 for a Kapex KS120 with MFT 800 stand. Took it home, carried it in easily, bolted it in place and took a few cuts. Absolutely fantastic, accurate, smooth, no sawdust spraying everywhere. I am wrapt to say the least. It was easier to ask forgiveness than permission from the good lady wife too...........

You could have tried mine if you'd liked Col. You got an MFT800 stand as well, I'd like to see that! What are you using for chip collection?

I didn't know you had one. I wanted to get the best and after reading I thought the Bosch would have been the ducks guts but it sadly wasn't. The Kapex is worlds away in every regard. The stand is a handy item. I am not using it in the shed but will take it when I am working out and about. The Bosch is a two man lift job. After working all day I would hate to lug it any distance. My old Hitachis were more accurate than the Bosch too. I had a sleepless night when I decided to return the Bosch because I didn't think they would accept the return but Total Tools were fantastic about it.

Come around and have a look at the stand anytime.
