SCMS.... GMC or SHERWOOD
Has anyone had any experience with GMC's SCMS LSM250 or Sherwood's 10" SCMS (QL218)
I am going to buy one or the other, and at $100 difference in the prices I can go either way.
Any input welcome.
Thanks,
Phill.

Maybe I didn't need to post this thread if the Sherwood is the same machine as the Carbatech Makita look-alike???

Phill,
GMC.......a bloke cant argue with the 2 year warranty on trade use.......or the return terms that GMC offer IMHO.
100 bucks is nearly 1/2 the price of a new one....no doubt they will get better in the future or the price will drop further on the curent one.
I swear by mine....but you already knew that
Cheers

It depends on what you're using it for. I've done some extensive framing with my GMC, which I set up on-site with in & out-feed tables as a chop-site. For this I'm more than happy, especially, as Steve pointed out, with it's warranty.
When new, I put it through the accuracy tests and managed a few passable compound-angled picture & mirror frames. However I tried another recently and it looks like wear has taken it's toll. 'Tis still perfectly suitable to framing but not top of the list for doing my version of "fine cabinetry."

Thanks gents. I got the GMC and after a bit of a tune-up it is giving a pretty good result. It was a bit off in all directions out of the box. The only real dissapointment is the useless "Pointers". The mitre one is so fat and so far away from the scale that it is not useable, and the bevel one covers the scale completely hiding it so is useless also. I might make some decent pointes and see how acurate the scales are.
