    Default scoring blade attachment

I subscribed to a Time-Life set of woodworking books and in one of them was illustrated a scoring blade attachment to be fitted to a standard 10" contractor's saw. This made the standard saw into a twin blade dedicated melamine-coated chipboard cutting unit. I did a google search and found this site http://www.southern-tool.com/store/j...cessories.html which shows such an accessory for a JET 10" contractors saw. However the blurb seems to indicate that it only fits a couple of American made machines, and I have a Taiwanese beauty from about 20 years ago. Is anyone familiar with this type of attachment and where it can be bought in Australia?

    Kevin,
I remember seeing these in a catalogue (carbatec?) about ten years ago. It was driven by an O ring type belt, twisted into a figure 8 so the blades were counter rotating. Haven't seen it since, but someone was trying to sell one on this BB a while back.

    Thanks Mick,

Interestingly enough the illustration of the Jet accessory seems to show it being driven by a straight forward drive belt running between two pulleys, and using the scribing blade wheel as an intermediate idler pulley. have you had any experience of how effective these add on scriber accessories are?

Sorry Kevin, but I haven't had any experience with them at all.

I have seen them at Carbatec in Melbourne. I think the manufacturer was called modulas or something. The price was in the $350-$400 range, and its does fit some taiwanese table saws.

Unfortunatley I have never seen one in use or ever heard any feedback.

Your best bet would be to contact Carbatec.

    Kevin,
found this quote on woodweb (US BB for pro wodworkers):

"I have had a modulus blade for many years. It was invented in Canada and it is my most prized blade. It cuts sheet after sheet and keeps going and has a very simple design.
That's right about the throat. I go through about 10 to 15 per month in order to keep the chips down to a minimum. I make my throats out of 1/2" MDF and use the system screws from BLUM to level it in my table saw. Also, don't forget to check your fence to ensure that it is true with your fence. "
Hmmm, it's got me thinking about one now......
