Unhappy Problem with secret nailing stapler

    Hi.

I need some advice/help with a problem I am having with a secret nailing stapler.

I am using a Bostitch M111FS secret nailing gun to staple 19mm hardwood (ironbark) boards to hardwood battens. My problem is that the staples are curling up on top of the tongue. The first 20 or so staples rammed home fine. Then I started to have problems with the staples only penetrating part way and curling up. This then nescessitates a tedious process of removing the bent staple with pliers to try again. It has been an increasing problem and now affects every staple.

I am using bostitch 45mm staples specific to the tool, and the compressor is running at the recommended 85psi, and is amply exceeds teh minimum requirements for the tool. my technique has not changed since the first few rows which as mentioned went just fine.

    This has me puzzled.

    Can anyone help please?

    A pic of the problem:

Check the end of the driver has not been damaged as this will effect the driving of the staple. Also make sure the staples are running up the cartridge freely as they may be jamming up slightly and when the driver comes down not catching it properly on top of the staple.

or, the timber may be that hard the staples can't penetrate.

Another possibility is that you are not holding the gun down and it is "bouncing".

I run all my staplers at 90psi.

    G'day.

Try oiling the gun & turning up the pressure a bit on the regulator.

    Gnarly,
unlikely, but just check and make sure there aren't two staples in the hole. If the magazine is worn it will allow two staples through and the gun obviously won't have enough power to drive them both. I had this happen with a hired gun, got them to come out on site on Saturday arvo (1.5hr round trip for them) to swap it. Also unlikey if you succesfully drove 20 or so staples successfully, but if you even bump the rubber bumper on top it will release a staple and again you'll be trying to drive two staples. Another (unlikely) possibility: is your regulator gauge okay. Clean and oil (with Inox, Wd40 or similar) the magazine as I've had guns jam because of sticky magazine action. Well that's all the reasons I can think of, hope you get it sorted.

    Default air

Your problem is that your volume of air drops and so does the pressure. You need a 20gallon tank or greater. The pressure should not drop below 90 pounds. If you are using long staples in hard wood. Don't forget to put a few drops of oil in the end of the gun every half day. If you hold on to the triger too long this will cause double shots and they will not go in. Hope this helps

    Thumbs up Thanks.

Thanks for all the replies guys - I have now a few things to go look at.

Just a few more bits of info in response to some of the suggestions:

It is a brand new gun - first time out of the box, so not worn!
The Compressor has a 40L tank

I'll let you know what the problem was when I do get it right.
