Default Who sells Norton 10" bench grinder wheels?

Who sells a 10" wheel for a bench grinder?

    I would prefer a white Norton in a low grit (e.g. 46).

Anywhere in Oz that ships interstate, but Perth would be a bonus.

    Regards from Perth

    Question Grinding wheels

Look up the yellow pages - try grinding and Norton
Look up the net - Norton grinding wheels Australia.
These should be readily available in Perth.

    Derek,

Blackwoods have 2 sizes of 250 mm diameter white wheels, 20 and 25 mm thick but both have 76 mm diameter bushes and some kind of significant adapter would be needed to mate it to the 25 mm arbor.

It will be interesting to see what AIA in booragoon have and please let us know what you eventually uncover.

    Hi Bob

I contacted Norton Abrasives. They had one white 46 grit 10" wheel in stock. It has a 2" (50mm) bore. I had to order it through WA Trade Tools, which I did, and they are looking into a bushing for me. Of course, if needs be, I could just turn one. But my workshop is in disarray (as I move it onto the veranda before the builders arrive).

    The part number is #BV 326 453

Incidentally, when you fitted the Blumax, did you use the arbor, or the existing flanges (with in-built bushing)?

Oh, and thanks for the figures and diagram - great!

    Regards

    Thanks Derek,

    RE: BluMax,
Fitting the 8" Blumax to the 10" grinder had 2 issues
    - firstly it is too wide to use the existing flanges so I turned one up out of a 7 mm thick flat bronze disc - basically I dished 3 mm out of the bronze disc and then drilled a 20 mm hole in the middle. For the second (outside flange) I was able to use a steel one direct from my 8" grinder - it has a 16 mm hole which neatly fits the threaded section of the 10" grinder arbour.
    - secondly the BluMax has a 1" hole and came with a 19 mm hard plastic bush but the arbor on the grinder is 20 mm. I turned up a hard dark grey PVC bush to suit.

Let me know if I can help eg I have access to a 25/32" (19.84 mm) and 26/32" (20.63) diameter drill bits. Unfortunately these are MT3? bits so can't fit in a standard chuck and have to be driven direct by an MT3 on a lathe or DP.

When I wear out my 8" white wheel I plan to get a 10" and will probably turn some flanges up out of steel or maybe brass, depending on what's in the scrap bin at work.

I see you have already ordered the 10" wheel but for future reference for all your abrasive needs Abrasiflex at 232 Collier Road, Bayswater have a huge range and very competitive prices.

I just ordered a 10" from Abrasiflex mainly because I am so happy with their 8" version which I have had for about a year. A problem with their standard 10" wheels is that they have 3" arbor holes which means making significant bush/flanges to enable them to fit the 20 mm arbor on the 10" grinder.
