Default C series Brad Nailer (air)

My Supercheap C series Brad nailer misfires/leaves 5mm of a 50mm brad sticking out sometimes, like 1 out of 6-7 50mm and less for 35mm long brads. The unsunk portion of the brad is bent over/twisted like it tried it's best and of course you know when it happens.....somewhere highly visible, not in the back of some temporary jig. Anyway I tried different brand nails to no avail and doesnt seem to be effected by air pressure in the tank nor how I hold the gun or my tongue for that matter. It's worked pretty well for about 5 years and I've put 6000-8000 brads through it.

Does anyone else have a similar gun with this issue ? Do these guns just wear out ? Any fix ?

This gun Blackridge Air Nailer Brad 18GA | Supercheap Auto

    Thanks in advance

They do wear out, the seals go hard snd they leak, the bump stops get brittle, the drive pins wear. For $280, buy yourself a Senco or Bostich or Paslode and never buy another, as long as you oil it each day they go forever. We’ve got Senco staple guns that are 40+ years old and still functioning perfectly.

Thanks RB, from your experience do you think wear is the cause of the problem in my case ?

Hard to say, the seals could have gone hard( there’s about 11 o rings in a nailgun) if you haven’t oiled it then they will, most likely be hard. Running them with too much air pressure can damage the big bump stop in the bottom of the cylinder. Running them on water laden air can dmage them, always drain the compressor tank regularly. The other thing to check is if your compressor might not be kicking in at a high enough pressure, it may be letting the air pressure get too low before running and charging it up.
But yes, it’s a cheap tool, and it’s done some work, if you plan on doing more for a while, it’s worth considering buying a good quality one, they last a long, long time, when looked after.

The Airco guns at my old work were pretty much indestructible and a bit more budget friendly than Senco and Paslode

Thanks for responses. Definitely use oil, draining the tank not so much….
The gun was around $25 on 50% off sale so I’ve probably got my money’s worth.

I have the hikoki/metabo mentioned by Pete99. Thought it was cheap at 160, but at under a hundred it's a steal. Very happy with mine.

The link is to amazon.com.au, so the price is in AUD, despite the fact the nailer will come from the states (It's US$35 in the states).
