Hello Soundman

I have a 680watt AEG, which I have had for about 7 years and it has been used from everything to drilling through hardwood sleepers for retaining walls to Boral keystone blocks. I have taken it into my roof cavity to install support braces ( I now have a cordless as well), and have used it with a hole saw to install over 30 12 volt down lights, and found that it performed all these tasks very well. There are more powerful tools on the market that will make very short work of the real tough jobs, and there are also some lighter ones that will be less cumbersome.

I chose this one (more by good luck than by design) to be able to perform a wide range of tasks. Seven years ago my wallet didn't allow me to be able to buy a range of tools so I went for one that was a jack of all trades.

I'm not sure if the 680watt hammer drill is still available, I think it has been upgraded to a 700 or a 710watt. For me it has been faultless and recommend it thoroughly. And I am not a representative of the company either, I have quite a few different brands of tools so am unbiased in my opinion toward the brand

Good luck!
