GMC 1HP Dust Extractor WVC50
Anyone seen these at Bunnings for $99 or even bought one??
I wonder how different they are to the $189 Carbatec job?

Give it a try and work it hard with the 2 year warranty, Let us know what sort of air flow it has.

I have seen some underbench units like that (not GMC) and they were brush motors, noisy as buggery, beware.
If it's an induction motor it will probably be OK but be aware that on start up there will be a puff of dust from the bag which is rather nasty (same as the big buggers).Stupidity kills. Absolute stupidity kills absolutely.

Dean did a review of a similar one from Timbecon a little while ago. Seemed fine, but he did mention it was noisy.
Check out his review, might help you decide. To muddy the waters a little Carbatec a having a promo at the moment on their bigger suckers, and kits as a job lot.Boring signature time again!

It is very effective the way I use it and they are not very noisy. However the filter bag is probably not so good and would reduce the efficiacy of the motor as it gets clogged up.
The other will be as a stand alone DC for the drum sander and when I use it I put the unit outside so any fine dust escaping the bag doesn't effect me.
They are half the price of the CT ones, probably made in the same factory, and have a 2 year warranty unlike CT which is only 1 year. So I don't think you can go wrong if you only need a 1hp one bag unit.

3 metres of hose included in the price makes it very economical. It also includes a two way adapter for smaller tools such as drop saw, router or sander.

Has anyone seen any of these GMC dust collectors in Sydney Bunnings.. I've had a look at my local and asked a few questions. The workers there as usual are clueless.
If they are any good I might pick one up and try Sturdee's tip.Greg Lee

The picture looks like an induction motor, ask them to turn it on so you can hear it.

My local at Thornleigh don't seem to have any, not that I've noticed, but that is often the case. If you're on the Nth Shore then the one out on Mona Vale Rd - Nth of St Ives is the biggest and usually has most advertised stuff.
If you go to www.bunnings.com.au they list their stores, locations and phone #'sBodgy

I have the base model Pulman and whilst it is a reasonable vac and may be OK for small volume suction it is not in the same category as these types of dust collectors.
I find in the Pulman that once there is a reasonable layer of dust on the filter the suction dies. This GMC, like other dust collectors, works on an impeller principle and the suction shouldn't drop off so quickly. Suction will continue longer with a bin in line before the unit, such as the triton bucket or similar.
Although I haven't heard one in action the motor doesn't look like the universal motors on the cheaper Timbecon model.

As such it is a gimmick for the handymen, but useless.

Similarly a Triton dust bucket, even a Sturdee modified one , could not be used with these but a proper drum separator could be used.
BTW I got mine from Mitre10 Mega store for father's day.
