Hey mate, check out the festool website - Sliding compound mitre saw KAPEX
As I mentioned before it hasn't got the laser, angle finder and a few other features that you'll find on their site.

It looks as though only the workbench is available here in Oz as yet. The dual-bevel glide saw shares the same base, fence and many other features as my 12" Bosch, but the extending and bevelling mechanism look as though they might create quite a shake up when they finally arrive here.
I would repeat that I chose the Bosch over the Makita when I bought mine. I felt it was better made, more rigid, larger base and extensions, superior fence, larger motor (not by much) and belt drive. The difference in cost was around $100. I haven't been disappointed.

Hi Bush...i must admit it looks impressive and time will tell if it gets here.
Linear guide bearings have the potential for zero running clearances. But the systems i have seen on most of the saws including my 12" Hitachi are pretty average...having said that for the money they are very impressive.
I looked at the AEG just recently and loved the base size but the amount of slop and general flex in the whole system was just aweful.
The mechanism on the new Bosch i have seen many yrs ago when i bought my 620mm radial arm saw. A New Zealand company made a saw called a Spida..I swear it was the most rigid machine i have ever seen. Unfortunely it was out of my price range and it used the same idea as the Bosch..but it was bomb proof.
My Hitachi is good..but if the Bosch is better then i will trade up when the time comes.

Having spoken to Bosch earlier this year they have no intention of selling the glide saw here in 2011.

I can confirm that - contacted Bosch Australia and was told the same thing.
Obviously they have lots of old stock to get rid of first....

Bought the kapex 88 a couple of weeks ago and am very happy with it. Exactly the same saw as the 120 but without the laser, electronic brake, fine bevel adjustment and special cutting position. I see the laser as a bit of a gimmick and something that can go wrong or get out of adjustment. Tested the 88 and 120 and found only a couple of seconds difference in braking time(not enough to be of concern and probably something else to go wrong). The fine bevel adjustment would be handy but it is fairly easy to adjust accurately anyway. The special cutting position would also be handy but once again I am not sure how often you would use it and I think you could probably just cut the timbers on the flat and use the bevel function. The 120 also comes with a Smart bevel which also may be handy but I have had a nobex smart bevel for years and have not really needed to use it. Also the 88 is about $400 dollars cheaper.

Mick
It is a well considered buy. Be sure to give an update once you have given it a work out.

Hi guys, I am also looking for a scms recently and bump into this thread. It seems that Bosch has released the fancy arm saw with fancy laser:
GCM 12 GDL Professional Mitre saw Benchtop Tools|Bosch power tools for professionals
Price is a bit hard to take though, given compitiors product usually sell for 200-400 less.

That seems to be a Bosch UK link? I did check Bosch Oz to see what was happening there and they have removed all reference to their old type saws so I am hoping that means the release in Oz is close.

Sydney tools: $1299
SYDNEY TOOLS - Bosch 305mm Professional Glide Compound Mitre Saw GCM 12 GDL
For this money, u can almost get a kapex! Very tricky pricing.

Well the Kapex will cost another $600 at $1899.
The Makita is about $200 cheaper than the Bosch.
These are all 12 inch bladed saws.
It looks as though Bosch has deliberately positioned its pricing between the two as if to say - we are better than the Makita and much better value than the Kapex.
Smart marketing I think.
I do like the Bosch solution to positioning the saw against a wall.
A good selling point IMHO.

That is the appeal to me, I am able to get it close to the wall. Sliding bar saws are all going to have flex in them no matter what and how much they cost. It will be interesting to see how this one compares. They give you a bonus blade which must count for something. Can anyone find it in the Bosch Australia site because I can't but then I find the Bosch site hard to search.

yeah, looks like there are folks still interested in this saw, including myself. I may give ST a call tomorrow to check out the status of the saw and see if there is demo available. BTW, I couldn't find anything regarding the 12GDL on Bosch Power Tools - Trade / Industry - Homepage
I need to get a scms soon for some job but I am still struggling between the bosch and kapex as I got a few festool already, but I can't see how much better the kapex is compare to the bosch.

The new Bosch SCMS is going to set the cat amongst the pidgeons. I have the old 12" model, with which I am very pleased. The new model is about $300 more expensive, but looks as though it is well worth it.
The additional blade is a bonus although I question whether it is worth $150 as I have been buying 60T blades (Bosch brand) for half that price.
An area I would like more information about is the dust collection. My saw is poor at this even when connected to a vacuum. Is this new model improved?
Lastly, if everything else is equal and you are down to the toss of a a coin, you might be interested to know that the Bosch company contributes a huge part of it's profit to charity.
