Thread: sliding compound mitre sawn stand

For a good brand saw stand, you're looking at around $300 at least. It's cheaper to build one using, as you said cut out kitchen sink top or even 33mm particle boards.

I build mine using particle boards (top, side, shelf, base and all) and with 4 solid castor wheels (2 locking swivel and other 2 fixed).

Work like a charm, with my Makita 1214 bolted down to the top and I can move it anywhere I like around my big shed. give you a sense of pride when you build it.

Hi Greg; I converted one from a $20 adjustable work bench, itself a copy of a Black and Decker. It was opened to its maximum jaw and two pieces screwed across the top because the scms base was too wide. It works well. I got the idea from my hired hep builder who maintains the ready made saw benches are too large to carry around. The saw is simply bolted on with wing nuts.

It works well.

I use an old Mk1 Triton Saw stand for my GMC. The saw sits on a 35m kitchen shelf base. It's light and with the jockey wheels moves around easily. The saw sits a little high but that suits my dodgy back.

If you go to Contractor Talk - Professional Construction & Remodeling Forum, News, Reviews, and Blogs | Contractor Talk and do a search for saw stands you should find some threads that have some ideas on home made saw stands.

One of the more interesting ones I saw was an extension ladder on two saw horses with a ply platform for the saw and a block of wood or similar on each side as support for the timber.

A fancier version had the saw platform on rollers so that the saw could be easily rolled to either end, halving the space needed for cutting long pieces if you need to put them to both the left and right.

Here is a useful bench made the same height as my table saw and quite useful for the longer bits. If you are handy with a welder on 19mm or 25mm square tube. The pics are here MickyG's Pics - Home

The stand is about seven year old now and sports 12lsh Hitachi Mitre Saw which is just great. The " wings " fold back to create more space, the wheels make it easy to move about.
