    Default Spiral Saw???

    Hi there everyone,
My dilemna is to try and find a "Spiral Saw".
I have asked at Bunnings, Mitre 10, Trade Tools, and no one has heard of them, figure that out.
I have read that Aldi had a batch earlier in the year, one of my mates managed to get one.
I went to Bunnings and they told they sold the Bits for them, but, don't sell the tool, go figure.
On top of that, they use to sell the GMC Spiral Saw, now, never heard of them.
Trade Tools never heard of them.
One guy there had heard of a "Spiral Drill"?????
Mitre 10 never heard of them, they suggested I go to Bunnings.
I must be going to the wrong stores??
I contacted Rotozip in America, but their gear runs on 110 Volts.
I have contacted Bosch, no reply
I have contacted GMC no reply.
    Anyone else having these problems.
It seems to be a very versitile tool.
    Hope some one can help.
I had thought of using a Palm Router with a Spiral Saw Bit, any suggestions???
    Thank You in Advance,

    G'day Chief Tiff,
I did see that DeWalt, but it is only the bare tool, I would have to buy the battery and the Charger as I understood it.
    Why doesn't it exist here???
    The hunt continues.
    Thanks for replying

The Rotozip bit fits in a Dremel (220v 50Hz version). Add a Dremel router base, and Bob's your uncle.

Another spiral saw is a spiral blade for a scroll saw - move the workpiece without need for rotating it. Convenient for situations where the pillar would be in the way.

    Cheers,
    Joe

    Hi Cassa and welcome

maybe you'll have better luck if you ask for a cut-out tool
    Makita make one 3706K-Cut-Out Tool

Just tools have it on their web site for $315 Makita Cutout Tool. #3706K

but maybe a Dremel and attachment will do the job for you ?

Thanks for replying Ian and Joe,
Firstly Joe I don't seem to be able to track down the Dremel 220v 50 hz, has it a model number? any idea where??? I can find heaps of Dremel but not that voltage, I must be doing something wrong.

Ian I have just tracked down a site in the Phillipines that has the "Taurus Spiral Saw"
( Aldi brand??), I have sent an email asking about the voltage, and now just have to wait.
I read in an other forum that GMC are in a lot of trouble, so, that is why I cant find any GMC Tools at Bunnings, they seemed to have pulled that brand from their shelves, Australia wide, politics/pricing I reckon, that was GMC's death knell.
Failing that, Makita here I come, a lot dearer, but a desperate man will go to desperate measures so they say.
You know I had looked at that site "Just Tools" and did'n't see it, I was typing in "Spiral Saw", it's all in the wording so they say, ask the right question and you get the right answer.
The next step is to find where they have their link to the bits for it.
The bits I take it can be bought from the sites mentioned in the previous forum for the "Spiral Saw".?? if I have no luck with Just Tools.
I'll let you know if I get a reply from the Phillipines if you like?
    Thank you all,

I'd try the Just Tools and the green B for bits.

Dremel make a cutout assessory that pretty much fits all their standard 240V tools.
Not sure about fitting the cordless ones though.
I got the assessory at the Home Hardware outlet in Mittagong, so they should be arround most larger chain hardware stores

    Thank for your time Ian.
I've been youtubing the Dremel tool as well, I think I will be buying both when some of my funds are released by my financial director(she who must be obeyed).
Also waiting for a call back from the Phillipines for the Taurus Brand Spiral Saw

Alternatively you could try Tool king in the USA. They deliver to Australia - fast.

This is their complete kit - but it has a 120v charger ( need converter)

cassa1 sent me a PM indicating he'd found the Dremel in question. Here's my reply:

To tell the truth, I only guessed one was available at 220 volts for Australia. The frequency doesn't seem to matter very much; mine (120 volts) lists 50-60 Hz. 50 Hz will simply run a little bit slower.

Since you'll be using it as a router, small increments of depth are better; say 2mm for each bite, as with any router. If you're cutting freehand, without a template or radius jig, make some practice cuts on scrap to become familiar with how it responds to variations in grain direction. And/or make the pieces slightly oversize (undersize for internal cuts) and sand to final dimension. The only other limitation on thickness is how far the bit protrudes from the router base for the last cuts.

If your router base doesn't have adjustable depth of cut, tape some shims of thin plywood or tongue depressors under the base to reduce the projection; remove a shim to increase the depth.

    Cheers,
    Joe

I've bought all my Dremel gear from here
I've previously been moved to comment on their very good service.

    Hi.

My first post on this site, so please be patient if I break any rules.

I bought one of the Aldi "Taurus" brand spiral saws. Works like a beaut. Went to Bunnings for more blades (Bits??) for it, and could only buy them in a set of three, the largest size of which won't fit the tool. Worth the price just to get the other two though.

    Cheers

    Maurie
