    Default Split nuts?

I'm looking for what i think are called split nut bolts (or screws) for use in Hand Saw handles. The type with a dome on each end?

Does any one know where i may pick some up? (website maybe)

    Any help would be great,
    Cheers

Wood Borer was looking for the exact same thing a few months ago.

In the end, I think Al sold or gave him an old wreck of a saw from the Craporium and he salvaged the nuts from that.

I don't think that they are easy to come by.

Maybe Al has an old saw he can sell you?

Here we go i think i answered my own question?

The following quote is from www.vintagesaws.com (the guy that started independance saws. later sold to Lie Neilson)

"Q: I have a saw that is missing some nuts, do you have any for sale?

A: No, sorry. I get about 50 requests like this a week. I maintain a small supply from junked saws to replace missing nuts for saws I sell on the site. You might consider stopping by yard sales or look for junk saws on Ebay. For a couple bucks you can get a set of 4-5 and have a few spare. There are no new saw nuts made as far as I know."

    bugger!

If I may interrupt this frivolity for a second (as is my practise) and bring this thread back onto topic (as is also my policy).

I can't believe that they don't make 'em anymore.

Sandvik saws have plastic handles bolted on.

I reckon if you go through the NewDelhi phone book, you'll come up with a supplier who'll sell you a container load for the price of a sixpack, and you'll be able to corner the world saw restorer's market.
    cheers,

    P

Carb-I-Tool list saw screws in their catalogue, Part No. SSCREW.

A reseller of Carb-I-Tool router bits should be able to get these in.
An internet reseller is AP Workshop:

    Kind regards

Chicago Bolts. Get 'em from Lee Valley or 'Old Fashioned' full service stationers. Available in different lengths by 1/4" increments.

OK the stationer's 'Chicago Bolts' will probably have smaller heads than old saw bolts, but your alternative is to have them cast up by a jeweller's investment casting contractor. You will have to supply an original & direct copies may be a bit smaller, but they may also be able to put you in contact with someone who can malke you a new master - want your initial/portrait/other cast in the plain side?

Eckersleys have them. Give your nearest branch a ring first, as they may not be in all stores.
