Sticking bits in the Dremel
I have a Dremel in which the bits keep sticking in the collet. I have had the tool for about 3 years and don't use it much. I have heard of this happening with routers but ironically that hasn't happened to me. Anyone know why this is happening?

Don't know why it's happening but probably for the same reason as with routers (just on a smaller scale) since it has to do with a collet system. The solution is the same - don't bottom the tool in the collet. Another solution is to get a chuck and use it instead of collets.

At least over here, the Dremel has 3 or 4 different sized collets to accept different bits. It may be that you have a collet fitted that is too small for the bit chosen and it doesn't like to come out.

Hi,
I've had the same problem - a couple of the collets are almost the same size, and if you use the slightly smaller one on the bit shafts it can am. You should be able to remove the bits by taking the collar off as far as you can, and hopefully the collet and bit will come out and you can foce the bit out.
The best option is as JMK suggested - get the chuck for it - I've hardly used the collets since and it doesn't jam. But keep the collets as you can't use the chuck with attachments like the router base, tile cutter, etc. Or just have more than one Dremel! (Four works for me )
Regards,
Darren

At the moment I am unscrewing the collar but the bit is still stuck within the collet and am having to resort to pliers to take the bit out. I've noticed it particularly happens with the cutting tool (which I use more than anything else). I've had the dremel for about 3 years but it has only been sticking for about the last year.

I find that if I don't put the bit all the way down, when I want to get the bit to release, I just tap the bit down and it seems to spread the collet a bit and out it comes...
Semtex fixes all
