    Question Tormek Wet Grind System

    I have been wanting a new grinding system to sharpen my blades for a long time now but can't make my mind up. You should see my current system

    I was just going to get a decent bench grinder and set it up for the job. but have seen these Tormek wet grinders designed for sharpening.

    the only real thing that is making me hesitate is the price of the machine. At over $700 plus accessories it does make it rather an expensive tool.

    So what are your thoughts?
    Any one got one out there that can share there thoughts on it?
    What are the advantages/disadvantages of this system?

    There are three models available. One is commercial and waaaayy to expensive. The others are the supergrind 2004 at over $700 and the cheaper version the supergrind 1204 at over $450.

    Does anyone know the difference between the two cheaper models? Not that they are that cheap

    Anyway, your thoughts will be appreciated as usual!

    A mate of mine has a tormek super grind, it cost him about $800, pretty steep. Having said that, he reckons it's great. What I've been looking at is a cheapie from Bunnings. They sell for $98 and have a 'normal' grinding wheel on one side, can't remember the speed, and a wet stone on the other that goes at about 130 revs. It looks OK and for the same price as a Tormek you can afford to replace it every year if you have to. It would take some serious use/abuse to wear out or bugger one every year though. I imagine the warranty would cover it for a year. Roll on Father's Day.
