Trade Air compressor - TD2540
Hey all,
Bunning is selling this air compressor, 2.5HP with 40L capacity, model TA-TD2540HP. The name on the box says "Trade Air" and underneath it says "by Spear & Jackson".
I searched the forum in and out but could not find any comments about this compressor (plenty on the GMC one though). Also searching the net came out with just one or two poor results.
Does anyone know this brand? Any comments?
Also, on the box it says 115CPI but nothing about the CFM. Does anyone know?
Thanks,
Ronen

Hello Ronen,
They have Bunnings in WA? You're more advanced than I thought, next thing you'll have electricity (only joking, lived there for two years and love the place).
I've said it before on this forum, I really believe that when you buy a compressor you have to hurt a little and spend the money to buy a good one. A small but good quality compressor will ultimately serve you much better than a cheap big one.
From what I've experienced the Spear and Jackson name is added to generic Chinese/Taiwanese ... things in Bunnings. I bought a Spear and Jackson staple gun from there and it was a generic. That's not to say that they're no good, just limited by "you get what you pay for".
If you buy a good quality compressor, you can stick it in the corner and with general maintenance it'll last you for 20 years, an el cheapo will struggle to make five years. Good luck with it.

This compressor should not have hard life with me, yet, I don't want it to drop dead on me after only two years of work (it has two years warranty).
What I am most interested in is to know how much CFM it can deliver, but it's not written anywhere ..

I'd be prepared to bet that the compressor is around 8cfm, and I think that buying a cheapie is OK as long as you keep in mind that it's disposable ....

I was in C/T on Sat morn, and they have an 'economy' belt drive compressor,2.5HP and a 40ltre tank for $349. I was impressed. Probably worth a look before shelling out at Bunnies.

TA-2540HP spear and jackson air compressor
Hi There I bought one of these units less than 3 weeks ago. On the second use it stopped working due to an elec problem.to save time ( i really needed it to work that day) i pulled the main switch apart and fixed it ( 3 hours man). the whole thing relies on a 2 cent spring, thats the backbone of this tool, funny ha!!!!. Up and running again on the fifth use it started to fill up and when it got to the correct pressure it then proceeded to self drain through the blow valve( not the pressure relief valve) it kept doing this until i turned it off and angrily took the dam thing back to Bunnings to exchange it. While i was there i asked if many had been returned and the reply was not many. After swapping it for a new one i got it home and spent the time again putting this one together only to dicover the air tank had a bloody hole in the weld. TAKE IT FROM ME PEOPLE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON ANYTHING THAT SPEAR AND JACKSON MAKE. JUST GOES TO SHOW THE QUALITY CONTROL THEY HAVE,, NONE !!!!!!!!! Now i have to return this one as well but i will be demanding my money back !!!!!!!!!!

My little supercheap auto one is still going strong after 4 or 5 years of neglect. Can't fault it. No good for high demand jobs but for what it was designed to do it is a pearler.
Cheers

All this probably explains why we stumped up the extra cash for a Made in Australia Peerless P17 compressor
Ours is not to reason why.....only to point and giggle.

compressor
hello all
i also have a 3 phase trade tools comp, this has been unfaultable as i am a fabricator and welder who builds large ally boats and it has never skipped a beat.
i am off to super cheap to get one of their 2.5 40l jobs for $135.00. I payed 189.00 at bunnings. i have a couple of their tools and all though they were cheap they have been reliable. shinano is the best for air tools and although others look exactly the same its what you can't see that makes the differance. oh forget cfm it the lpm you need to pay att to. Most ind air tools need 90 psi plus of constant pressure be efficant
later wardsy
