A blade/cutter block for trenching top & bottom plates, sometimes called a dado blade. I think the one he's after is more like a moulder head, with removeable TC tips that can be rearranged to give varying width cuts. I've got one of these somewhere and I'll PM him when I find it.

    Mick,

It's been thirty years since I've seen one, let alone used it, but my memory is that we used to mark out the plates and cut the edges of the checks first, and then go back with the trencher in lieu of hand chiselling. The trenching head was a bit like a big version of a plane blade?

Or am I completely lost here?

I know that the one we had was definitely NOT a dado blade???

I've always wanted a trenching head. It would match my pointy one perfectly.

    Midge,
yeah, you're probably right, I've never used this sucker and looking at it (or at least remembering what it looks like) you'd probably need to do what you said to prevent massive amounts of splintering and blow out. Makes you wonder why he wants one rather than a dado blade?
