tv interference
my makita orbital sander is causing interference on my neighbours tv. I have had the sander for a number of years without any problems and is still working fine. I have contacted Makitas recommended service agent about this problem and they are not sure that there is anything that could be done to fix it since the sander is working alright. Can anyone confirm if causing interference is a normal issue or is there indeed something wrong with my sander?
The last thing I want is to annoy my neighbours every time I go into the workshop.

Is it just the sander or is it the same with other tools ?
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

I tried my belt sander with my own tv and there was no interference but my orbital sander did interfere with the picture.

It's usually just the brushes arcing which cause the problem. How old is the sander or has it always done it? Maybe new brushes?
A filter can be added, ie a capacitor, across the supply. I think there is a Dick Smith kit out that you can use with any gear from memory.

Why fix it? You can use it as a tool to interrupt your neighbours viewing of Australian Idol.

I've just received a phone call from Makita. (I sent them an email just before posting on the forum - thought it was the right thing to do but didn't really expect any response)
Response:
My model was built before they fitted suppressors but I can have one fitted - cost of part $6-7, even got the part number for the mechanic. How is that for brilliant service? and fancy using the tool for all those years and not coinciding with the neighbours watching tv! Hm, might suggest they check the brushes as well.
I'd be sorry to lose this sander, it's a little beauty.

Part will probably just be a capacitor but best to get it checked out if you are not familiar with nasty bitey stuff
