    Default Need Urgent Advice

I have a Ryobi 10'' table saw. Just got a new blade installed and it is OK. I have "extended my saw top with MDF but now find my new saw blade "binding when using my home made panel cutting jig.

I have tracked down the problem, my slot is not parallel to the blade. It worked OK with the original blade but suspect it was because it was a bit more flexible than the new one.

I can't adjust the saw head itself (I tried). My question is I now want to route out a slightly wider groove in my MDF top but this will include routing out the aluminium Ryobi table top. Will a tipped router bit cut the aluminium top, I'm pobably looking at about 1 mm cut.

    Many thanks

Yes, they certainly will cut through aluminium. I confirmed this yesterday when I made a cut through the mitre guide on my table saw after forgetting that I had moved it over in front of the blade.

Cardide will cut most non Ferrus metal, I have cut brass flat bar with my drop saw, as long as you take it slowly.
    Aluminium will cut easily.

When cutting or routing aluminium with tungsten carbide tools you need to lubricate and cool the blade/cutter. If someone is available to help you this is best done with a spray bottle full of metho. Get your helper to spray a thin stream of metho onto the cutter. Alternatively give the cutter a lick of beeswax and coat the cut line with beeswax as well. The metho may be a fire hazard but I've seen it used succesfully in large boatbuilding works without incident.

Get a cheap high speed steel cutter this will still cut Aluminium
they are more resistant to chatter than carbide tipped tools(very brittle) and if they dull easy to re sharpen.
BUT before you cut make sure its all secure and check the bade is rotating true with a dial indicator.
If you don't use coolant take small cuts.

Umm, I really don't think routing a new slot is a good idea You'll never be able to use the slot again if you do.

You really should be able to adjust the alignment of the blade to the slot. The saw assembly will be bolted to the table top, and therefore almost certainly would be adjustable - even if you have to elongate the mounting holes a little.
