Default Using a Slick - 1 for darksiders

Ive seen these tools but have no idea how & what they're used for. They look impressive though. http://barrtools.com/Merchant2/merch...egory_Code=SLG

Chris Vesper has one that he displays at all the woodshows.
    Christopher also wants one.
Mainly used by boat builders I believe.

    Ryan Archer has some slicks.

Barr tools make mean chisels too, very high quality and nice to use - highly recommended.

    Wood Borer,
Have you used them or know someone who has?

    Default Slicks 101

Slicks are used for paring only!Never hit them with a mallet or hammer.
They are used with the end of the handle tucked into the armpit or under the arm.You can use them where a plane would not fit eg.for paring the bottom of a door or for paring drawer runners inside cabinets.
They should be used with care...the handle is usually removable from the socket for ease of transport. If care is not taken the blade can fall out and cut your legs or feet.
They are usually slightly angled at the socket. If you hit them, the force will not be transferred in a straight line to the cutting edge and may break the handle.Use them bevel up and carefully check the grain direction as they are not very effective against the grain or in difficult timbers.
    Awsome looking tools!
There's a boat inside me trying to get out.
    Was it something I ate?

    Carpenter,

I only have one Barr chisel - see the post above. It is a 1" bevel chisel kindly sent to me by Ryan. It is a beautiful chisel to use and it holds it's edge very nicely.
