What is the most versatile tool?
Hi to everyone,
I was putting together a basic toolkit to keep in the car, not so much for car emergencies but more for when people ask if I can fix something up and I got to thinking about the most versatile tool(s) that are easy to carry and can perform other jobs (maybe not as well as the proper tool but enough to get by). So, I'll get the ball rolling by saying the stanley knife (it can cut rope, cardboard, fix up mitres etc.) and my little Stanley square which helps guide my circular saw as well as work out angles for roofing etc and as a means of testing whether something is square or not.
So what do you reckon is the most versatile tool(s)?

Several years ago a study was conducted into this very topic. It had the premise that if you could only have one tool, what would that one be? In this study, two ended up on the shortlist - axe and machete. Machete won hands down for versatility.
It's all academic though isn't it? No way I could live without my chisels, planes, saws.......................

you only need 2 tools for emergency situations, a roll of duct tape and a can of wd40. if it moves and it isnt supposed to use the duct tape. if it doesnt move and it is supposed to use the wd40
