OK, slightly un-woodworky...
But does anyone know where I can get vinyl welders and industrial sewing machines (like for upholstery work) ?? I have done some googling, but haven't found a lot of helpful websites. Particularly interested in secondhand, but serviceable equipement.Semtex fixes all

Try the Trading Post, posting your location might help others.

Err, yeah...I'm in qld, but for specialist equipment, I don't care much where in the country it comes from...

Pity you said 'in the country' there, because dad-in-law just sold about 20 of the things.
Got a few left, but they are not for sale. They went for nothing price too, which was disappointing...
Note where I am, and why the 'in the country' doesn't quite work.

I'm sure if the price was right shipping wouldn't be too dear from there? Would it??

Oh no, bargain!
What, each machine was about 25kg, plus the motor and table to go with it, which you would prolly need to aquire locally.
It was the only time I have ever seen dad-in-law anywhere close to upset. Real pity...

This is neither second hand nor particularly cheap, but if you want a good medium weight sewing machine go to www.sailrite.com and have a look. They also have a second hand forum. I've got their LSZ-1 and it's a truly great machine with plenty of grunt - 60-70 ozs of sail cloth no trouble. Heavy macrosuede upholstery - not trouble. 4 layers of heavy duty truck tarp - no trouble.
Otherwise do a Google for things like Juki, Singer...etc
Regards
Mike
