    Default Virutex Biscuit Joiner

Just bought a second hand Virutex biscuit joiner - looks to be in very good condition with little use, and seems to run and cut very well. The only little thing I'm wondering about is the noise it makes when it's switched off - it's a bit of a clattering noise as the blade slows and comes to a stop. It's perfectly smooth when running and I can't detect any lateral play in the blade at all.

This is the only bikkie joiner I've used, so I have no idea if this sort of thing is normal or not. Is this just a normal function of the 90 degree gearbox used in these things? Anyone else notice the same thing in their ones?

    Thanks

    Stu

All the biscuit joiners I've used make a sort of "electrical clattering sound" as they wind down, so do all the angle grinders I've used. As a biscuit jointer is basically a converted angle grinder I expect them to make that same noise.

To put your mind at rest why don't you open the gearbox up and check it out? The lower shaft bearing should be available form a good tool shop and hopefully there will be some sort of bearing at the free end of the shaft as well (my old Ozito had the free end of the shaft running in the bare ally casing; when it was stuffed the whole machine was scrap). If everything is ok just redistribute the existing grease around the gearbox and close it up again.

Got the same issue with a DeWalt biscuiter, hasn't died yet though

I was planning on doing this. I don't think it will be a bearing problem, so it should just be a matter of redistributing or maybe adding a tad more grease just to shut it up slightly.

The main thing is that it seems to be normal behaviour...
