    Cool Whooho!

    G'day,

Yeah so what, it's a picture of a Hitachii TR12 router , the so what about it is that it's finally mine! And inside the box was a 5mm plate of aluminium which my Dad had got cut to make a r/table insert.

When my Dad died, my BIL raced into the shed and nicked stuff that a. my Mum didn't even know about and that b. I knew of, but nicked it before I could get access to the shed. Sure, BIL is the husband of my sister, but BIL is a Johnny-come-lately into the family so

    BIL

Anyway, Mum demanded all what BIL flogged off with be returned as she was upset over the agro it caused me and I was able to get up there this weekend gone and claim some of the stuff. It was slim pickings with what was left (as she'd given a fair bit way), but most importantly was the router which I flew up to get, that plus whatever else was left inc. nails, bolts etc.

The story continues and here's where it get's sad.

I was helping BIL put up the roofing for the new verandah he's putting up on his place and he gets out a bodgy chisel to use, tries to sharpen it up on the grinder and blues it. Giving up on that he brings out my Dad's old chisels . I realise, Dad's old chisels!

2 full sets of AE Berg chisels in socket and b/edged in pristine condition!

He hadn't handed 'em back to my Mum I was on the inside (surely that can't be a Code vilolation given the circumstances?) So I said, "Mate they'll outlast you and Brendan (his son)", I flamin' well hope he looks after them.
I make things, I just take a long time.

    Well done brother.

Hey, you should keep it until Friday. We are going to talk only woodwork in our Friday thread, aren't we? That will keep everyone happy.

Your dad had some great stuff - shame you didn't get to it first.

Your experience is a lot like mine. Makes you sick to the stomach indeed. That is a fine, fine router. Dad had a TR8 - I lucked on a TR12 used but pristine. I didn't luck on the Wadkin buzzer, numerous hand tools, bandsaw, dovetailer, welder, compressor.... the list has no end like the SOB that sank his teeth into it. Damn families!

    G'day Wongo,

What keep the router until Friday? Huh. It's mine I tell you, mine.

Teejay and MurrayD99, it's all history now and I'm past letting it get to me, still it's such a shame about the Bergs, but with what I've got in my shed from my Grandad and Dad, there's be little left if it wasn't for the tools I do have from them.

Death brings out the worst in people!!
When my sisters MIL died all the sisters in law invaded the place, you know "Oh Mum promised me such an such, etc, etc"
Took it for the first two but when third one approached was forced to bring out the.22 rifle and threaten greviuos bodily harm if she took one step further. She has heard no more from any of them!!

Offer him a brand new set of 'really good' Stanley plastic handles as a swap. I can't stand the thought of him grinding them blue, it sets my teeth on edge.

    G'day Ian and Groggy,

Thankfully BIL undestands what Bergs are and he knows what he's doing, so the Bergs should be safe. It was only a stuffed plastic handled Stanley he was blueing - so he wasn't worried. Even still.

I am tempted to offer him $100 for them and see what happens

Waldo, the TR-12 is a damned good router. Near bullet-proof.

'Tis what I use and I'm fairly sure has quite a few of 'em in his shop, too.
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

    Waldo,
With all the grief he has caused you, I think it was incredibly generous of you to be willing to help him on his new verandah. I am going to try to give my first ever greenie, to you, for that.
No harm in trying to prick his conscience, though, and suggest he gives you the Sharks in exchange for some other set plus a reward for your work for him.
Good luck and see what he is really made of. Maybe your sister's taste is not all bad?

Waldo, in the Confuscian scheme of things you are a good person. Your BIL on the other has a messy fate awaiting him. May the Jade Gate close on his tongue and leave him forever mute.

I had a TR12 once. Damn fine machine. 1st ex swmbo got half in a fire sale. Cow... It will never let you down.

As for the Bergs, tell him I'll give him $300 for the lot and I want you to count 'em (make sure he doesn't keep any).
    Cheers

I'll have to give up reading these threads. This one brought it all back to me and I had 'forgotten' how the guy across the road took all the stuff from my father's shed after he died, to the dump in three truckloads and only charged mum $150. At the time I was too kind to ask mum what happened to all the cast engines and carriages (O gauge for those in the know), tools and a trailer.
Then there were the two guys who picked up his mason's regalia who offered $s for boy/man type objects that really should be handed down.

Aren't there some awful people out there. Maybe their karma is coming!
