WorkSharp sharpening system
Came accross this http://www.worksharptools.com/ the other day & it looks GREAT! I am a clutz when it comes to sharpening tools - seem to burn chisels on the grinder & then dull them on stones! This could really save me a lot of frustration.
Does anyone know who is the distributor fro Drill Doctor in Oz? This is made by the same company, so I want to follow up to see if we will be geting a 240VAC version.
Ross.

OK
Had a reply from WorkSharp today.
Unfortunately Work Sharp will likely not be available internationally, or in 230V, until 2008. We do not recommend using a 115V model in a 230V country with or without the help of a converter/adaptor, as these machines are simply not designed to withstand the alternate current. However, if you're willing to sacrifice the machine's warranty, you may purchase a 115V model from one of our U.S. dealers (i.e. Rockler: www.rockler.com) and use a converter. We will not ship internationally direct from the factory, unfortunately.
Again, if you choose this path, your machine's warranty will be void; however, you'll not have to wait several months for the 230V version of Work Sharp.

Have a word with Lee Valley about their power sharpener - it is a bit more expensive, the platters are aluminium instead of glass, otherwise they look to work the same (should be a field day for patent lawyers).

See this for an in depth look at their system. Seems to beat the LV hands down for less $$.

Here is Wood Magazine's conclusion:
After using Work Sharp to tune-up every chisel and plane knife in the WOOD magazine shop (plus most of mine from home), here's what I like best:
- Accurate set up. Being able to return to a precise bevel angle every time means I spent less time sharpening and more time woodworking.
- It's so easy to restore an edge, I didn't wait until I couldn't use a tool anymore before I sharpened it. (Often, I went through only one or two grits, and I was back in business in less than a minute.)
- Inexpensive sharpening supplies. Just some sandpaper when I need it.
- You can sharpen very short chisels and small plane irons

Worksharp Sharpener
Industrial Tool & Machinery (who are the Drill Doctor importers) will be receiving the Worksharp range mid to late May 2008. You will be able to get one through just about any tool shop across the country once they arrive. Look forward to seeing it!
