    Cool Workshop Space Hog

After the overwhelming response & feedback to my post "Does Anyone Have....?" I've bought a workshop space hog & it needs heaps of room & even more dust extraction, at least 2000 CFM
After a bit of tweaking it seems to work reasonably well. If you have never used a commercial model it would seem to be a marvel.

    Cheers

    Major,

I normally don't get envious about workshops and tools that other board members have. I normally am quite content with my own set up. However that machine does make me envious.

Congrats on it and let us know some more details.

Major, eyed it off at the recent Perth WW Show on the Carba-Tec stand was tempted but would have had to kick SWMBO outta the kitchen

Had I the room it would be a consideration for a twin drum, but in my space situation ...I'm reasonably with the Performax 16/32 unit.

Are you gonna cut your own sanding rolls or are you gonna purchase and if so do they offer a selection of grades for the machine?

    Good luck ....green with envy.

    Cheers

    Yo Johno

I'm gonna cut my own lengths & I've made up a template for the ends already. A 100mrt roll is about $185.00 so it's much more cost effective to cut your own.
You can buy pre-cut stuff from Carba-Tec in grits from 60 to 240. It comes standard with 80 & 120 which is a bit course for a 'Finished Panel'. I tried 120 & 240 but the 240 just loads up due to the small diameter of the drums (5").
I've settled on 120 & 180 grits as my standard for use after thicknessing.
    Cheers

Can we expect some photos of your visitors disappearing into it, or is that sort of silliness restricted to Victorians?

I'm saving up to get one of those 3000 CFM mothers' Carba-Tec sells for about a grand. While I'm at it I'll run 6" pipe all round the workshop with 4" or 5" droppers for all the other machines...... one day..... yeeeeeh

if you use a high power single phase unit you might not have enough electric supply left to run the machines that do the work.

    Hi Major,

I'm in the throes of researching a drum sander purchase for myself, and would be really interested to hear any further feedback that you might have on this unit (particularly any suggestions for tweaks). At this stage I'm stuck between the MS-25, or the Performax 22-44 Pro - both of which got very good reviews in a recent edition of AWR.

    Cheers,

    Justin.
