48" plus bandsaw mills in Vic
Hello,
Interested in hearing from owner/operators of bandsaw mills in Victoria, who might be interested in some regular contract work next year. Must be able to cut a maximum of at least 4 foot wide slabs, slightly larger preferable.
PM me phone number and I will call, thankyou.

Well, a bandsaw mill because I don't like seeing valuable timber convertred into sawdust............I own an alaskan mill, and it is not the best option for the particular job at hand.

If you don't do any good with the forum members contact the saw doctors in Melbourne. They may be able to put you in contact with someone. I think Custom saws do bandsaw blades and there are a couple of others that might be able to help.
cheers

I don't agree. If you get your wood it is always better to cut it yourself and get what YOU want rather then getting a lot cut the wrong way!

Big bandsaw
Contact the vic forestry commision or whatever you call them over there. They will know who has what machine and you can take it from there.

Whats the difference?
With any kind of chainsaw mounted the wood is easy to cut. Any new saw for this kind of milling has a very nice cutting and by doing this yourself it is getting more out of a log then going to a mill. You get the cut exactly as you want it. Not every mill has the time to do so.

i did plenty of research. i spent weeks reserching when i was looking at buying a mill.
they are not bad if it is just a resaw bandsaw. cutting clean wood.
as soon as they lose the very sharp edge on teh blades they folow the grain and cut wavy boards. not so bad in softwood.
mobile bandsaw mills are not good. they are far from easy to operate and run accurately be experts.
but i supose you know beter than me from your vast experiance operating large bandsaws.

I'm challenging your blanket statement that, "band mills cannot cut hardwood".
I'm telling you that big modern pro-hardwood mills either use or are moving to bands and not circulars.
There is a lot more to general milling than just mobile millers and their circular or CS toys.
The Pemberton mill probably cuts more wood than all the lucas millers in australia combined - I think it is operated by just 9 operators.
I didn't need to do any more research than about 30 seconds of just watching their big bandsaw to convince me that a big bandsaw has no trouble in accurately cutting Aussie hardwood.
