i use the same saw with a 4 foot bar and mill jig for slabbing , got it second hand also , top saw, only one better, the 3120. good price to at the moment, i paid $1200.

It depends where you look at it from but i was quoted less than $1650 for a new one from a local dealer that had it "sitting on display" for a while.

Just finished $1725 It was a 3120 Husky, 2 x 44 inch bars and a mill. 20-30 hours work

After trying sabbing and needing a bigger saw i decided a 95 or 120 Husky or the same size in Stihl (660 or 880)

The husky 395 was $1690 or the 3120 $2000

The Stihl 660 was $1650 or the 880 was $2200

I nearly order the 3120 then looked on ebay and lala

Yep (i hope it actually goes works) a MS 660 Magnum (so i'm told) and mine for only $750.

Here's the specs of that 14.7 kg saw

Look at the bottom of that page and you'll see a picture with the 50" bar.

Personally I'd rather have a new 088 (more HP, higher revving and about 2/3 of the weight)

Yes the 088 is good, yet the diesel-like grunt of a 090 will never be beaten. For milling the weight is not a big consideration. You can bog an 088 down yet you can never do that to a 090.

As for purchasing from the US on e-bay I have done so many times with no problems. Bought several chainsaws, a couple of palm nailers, two saxophones, books, and many hand tools and had never experienced any problems. My current 4WD was purchased on e-bay from Japan.
I had one saxophone damaged in transit yet the insurance paid and I sold the scraps for the same money it cost me. However you have to know what is going on before you buy. Beware of $1 dollar auctions of apparently good valuable items located in China. Watch out for new members, see other items offered by the seller, ask questions and see the speed and common sense in the answers etc.

I would buy that saw in a heartbeat for $1000 and perhaps a bit more. It is the best and the biggest one cylinder saw ever made and it looks in good shape. However I have far too many chainsaw and little opportunity to use them.

I agree about the weight of the saw/mill, as long as you can get the mill/saw onto the log.

Re which saw will ultimately cut faster, it depends what you milling. For smaller softer logs, chainspeed/kerf clearing is what ultimately limits cutting speed and the higher revving 088 would outmill the 090. In bigger harder logs, sheer grunt is much more significant - I'd like to see an 090 operating in a big box or redgum or even our local tuart (these have a lot of silica in the wood and it quickly dulls your chain and really loads the engine). Whatever the case I agree, the 090 is still highly desirable and a top of the line milling saw.

Too much for me! As long as my 076 is able to get through the logs I currently have access to that will have to do me.
